Magnitude 6.6 earthquake hits Balut Island in Davao Occidental


A magnitude 6.6 earthquake was recorded in Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani in Davao Occidental on Tuesday morning.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the tectonic earthquake happened at 9:39 a.m. at a depth of 122 kilometers.

The epicenter was located at 03.18°N, 128.64°E - 434 km S 55° east of Balut Island, PHIVOLCS said.

PHIVOLCS added aftershocks were expected.

In a tweet, PHIVOLCS said there is no tsunami threat in the country resulting from the earthquake. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
