Bulusan volcanic earthquake down to just 8 —PHIVOLCS
The number of volcanic earthquakes recorded at the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon declined to just eight (8) in the past 24 hours, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Based on the previous PHIVOLCS data recorded from 12 a.m. of Thursday to 12 a.m. of Friday, as also cited by GMA Integrated News Bulletin, the number of volcanic earthquakes at the Bulusan Volcano was 89.
However, activity could still not be seen at the top of the volcano due to clouds.
An increased seismic activity was observed in Bulusan Volcano last Thursday.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which means there is a low level of unrest with increased chances of steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Due to possible sudden and hazardous phreatic eruptions, PHIVOLCS is prohibiting the public from entering the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and advised them to be vigilant within the two-kilometer extended danger zone on the southeast sector.
Flying close to the volcano's summit should be prohibited as ash from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft, PHIVOLCS said.
Those living within valleys and along river/stream channels should be vigilant against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars in the event of heavy and prolonged rainfall in case of a phreatic eruption, it added. —Jamil Santos/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
