Magnitude 5.4 earthquake strikes offshore Northern Samar

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck in the waters of Northern Samar at midday of Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake occurred at 12:41 p.m., it added.

The epicenter was traced to 12.83°N, 126.02°E - 091 km N 65° E of the municipality of Mapanas.

The quake had a depth of 10 km and was tectonic in origin.

Intensity II was felt by residents in the municipality of Palapag.

PHIVOLCS said no damage is expected but aftershocks may occur. —KG, GMA Integrated News
