Jacinto to enhance Habagat as heavy rains expected in Luzon, Visayas
Tropical Depression Jacinto is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, which will bring heavy rains over some areas in Luzon and Visayas, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Thursday.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said it has issued a heavy rainfall outlook due to the Habaga-enhanced Jacinto. Based on the outlook, the following areas will experience heavy rains:
Thursday to Friday noon
50 to 100 millimeters - Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental
Friday noon to Saturday noon
50 to 100 millimeters - Occidental Mindoro and Palawan
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
“The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property,” it added.
PAGASA said Jacinto was last spotted 480 kilometers west of Subic Bay, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
The tropical depression was moving west northwestward at 20 kph.

Jacinto is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening and make landfall over Vietnam on Saturday.
“Tropical Depression JACINTO will move northwestward in the next 12 hours and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight,” PAGASA said.
“Afterwards, it will turn more west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea towards northern or central Vietnam, where it is likely to make landfall on Saturday (30 August) afternoon or evening,” it added.
PAGASA said Jacinto is seen to slowly consolidate and may reach tropical storm category on Friday. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
