Meteor shower peak expected on night of Sept. 9, 2025

Stargazers will be in for another show up in the skies after the Blood Moon Sunday night — the Epsilon-Perseid meteor shower which is expected to reach its peak on the night of Tuesday, September 9.

The September E-Perseid meteor shower is actually visible from September 5 to 21, but its peak will be on September 9, with up to five meteors per hour visible under dark skies, PAGASA said.

The meteor shower is expected to start at 9:01 p.m. tonight and will end until 4 a.m. tomorrow, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

"Radiating from the constellation Perseus, the shower becomes visible each night from around 09:01 p.m., once the radiant rises above the eastern horizon, and lasts until dawn at approximately 05:20 a.m.," the weather bureau said.

"The most favorable viewing is at 04:00 a.m., when the radiant is positioned at its highest point," PAGASA said.

However, the moon which is just three days past full "will present substantial interference in the meteor viewing," it added.

PAGASA said no special equipment like telescopes or binoculars are needed to see meteor showers as they are visible to the naked eye.

"Maximize the viewing experience by choosing a dark observation site away from the city lights under clear and moonless sky conditions," it said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
