Italian scientists studying how to produce food through 3D printing
Scientists in Italy are studying how 3D printing technology can be applied in food production.
As seen in Martin Javier's Game Changer report on "24 Oras," Monday, they aim to produce sustainable and nutrient-rich food through the project called Nutri-3D.
"In our world where arable land is shrinking and climate change forces us to rethink food production, the goal is to keep making what we are used to eating," said Silvia Massa, the head of ENEA's Agriculture 4.0 Lab.
The group has developed various ways of food production like growing plant seeds in gel instead of soil and cultivating plant cells without growing the actual plant. Following these processes, the food can be produced with 3D printing technology.
The technology can be used in resource-scarce settings like conflict zones, disaster areas, and even in space. —Nika Roque/MGP, GMA Integrated News
