Philippine Eagle Foundation introduces new eagle chick Bayani

The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) has unveiled its newest eagle chick.

In a social media post on Tuesday, PEF introduced Philippine Eagle Chick 32 named Bayani, the offspring of the Philippine Eagles Dakila and Sinag.

“Now in its 3rd month, Bayani is the offspring of Philippine Eagles Dakila and Sinag, produced through cooperative artificial insemination as part of the Philippine Eagle Foundation’s conservation breeding program,” the PEF said.

According to the post, Bayani’s name, which is the Filipino word for “hero,” was chosen by its adopter, Nico Herth, the owner and CEO of Procon Grumbach.

“The name celebrates the courage and hope carried by every young Philippine Eagle,” the foundation said.

Bayani comes after the death of Riley or Chick No. 31, who died in April 2025.

The Philippine eagle (or the Monkey-eating eagle), which is also the national bird of the country, is classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with only about 400 pairs remaining in the wild.

The Philippine eagle is also considered the top carnivore of the country. They are only found in Luzon, in the provinces of Leyte and Samar, and in Mindanao, according to the PEF.
