The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded Strombolian activity at the summit crater of Mayon Volcano on Tuesday night, which caused a 500-meter ash plume to rise from the volcano.

Time-lapse footage from the Mayon Volcano Observatory captured activity at 10:33 p.m., 10:59 p.m., and 11:39 p.m.

"These events produced ash plumes that rose 500 m before drifting west," Phivolcs said.

State seismologists said the effusive eruption at Mayor continues for the 85th consecutive day, which generated incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents or "uson" and rockfalls.

Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon, which means that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited. —LDF, GMA News
