In the Philippines, the weather can be unpredictable—scorching hot one moment, then suddenly pouring rain the next, which causes extra hassle when drying the laundry outdoors.

But a young innovator from Calamba, Laguna, may have found a smart solution to this everyday problem.

As seen in Mark Salazar's report in "24 Oras" on Thursday, 11-year-old Neille Geneann Cristobal is attracting attention online for his design of an automated sampayan that detects when it starts to rain.

"Rain sensor…once na umulan ay automatic na 'yung mga sinampay ay pupunta sa lilim ng bahay," Neille said.

"At kapag tumila na ang ulan, babalik na ulit siya," he added.

He also designed an automatic folding machine that neatly folds clothes with minimal effort—simply place the garment into the device, and it will be folded properly.

Another one of his designs is an energy-saving fan designed to help households cut down on electricity costs.

Equipped with a motion sensor, the fan automatically turns on when someone enters the room. When the room is empty, it shuts off after 10 seconds, though the time delay can be adjusted depending on user preference.

According to his mother, Neille developed an interest in tinkering with things at the age of nine. She believes he inherited this curiosity from his father, who enjoys working on motorcycles.

With his creativity and passion for building, the young innovator dreams of becoming an engineer someday. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA News
