A rare jade vine, an endemic plant known for its striking turquoise flowers, has been sighted again in the mountainous area of Baggao, Cagayan, authorities said.
The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Alcala said the plant was found growing as a vine beneath mature trees in shaded parts of the forest.
Officials said they are trying to propagate the species through marcotting, using seeds and parts of the plant, in areas with healthy forest conditions.
The jade vine’s flowers typically last for about two to three weeks before they wilt.
Authorities said the discovery highlights the importance of protecting forest habitats where rare species like the jade vine can thrive. — GMA Regional TV
