Philippine Scops Owl rescued in Pangasinan

A Philippine Scops Owl was rescued by authorities in Barangay Inerangan in Alaminos, Pangasinan after a resident sighted the endemic bird in the area.

According to the DENR, the concerned resident immediately reported the sighting of the bird to the Alaminos City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The authorities immediately picked up the owl.

"The Philippine Scops Owl was brought to the City Veterinary Office to be examined and to ensure it was in good condition. Following the examination, it was turned over to DENR-CENRO Western Pangasinan for proper care and appropriate next steps regarding its safety," the DENR Ilocos Region said in a statement.

The DENR reminded the public not to attempt catching, hurting, or disrupting any wildlife you encounter. The public is also advised to immediately any encountered wildlife to the nearest local Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Generally larger than the Luzon Scops-Owl with which is overlaps geographically, the Philippine Scops Owl is a medium-sized owl that is usually found at lower elevation.
