Microsoft offers free Windows Phones 'upgrade' to Android malware victims
Microsoft is offering a free “upgrade” to a Windows Phone for users of phones running Google’s Android operating system who were victimized by an Android malware attack – and share their bad experience online. Windows Phone evangelist Ben Rudolph made the offer on his Twitter account, adopted the hashtag “#droidrage” and said he would pick the five top stories involving Android malware. “Been nailed with Android malware and have #Droidrage? Share your story with me...you might win an upgrade to a #windowsphone!” he said. The “contest” was to run until late Wednesday (Manila time). A separate article on computer security firm Sophos’ website said the offer appears to be a relatively transparent marketing ploy. “I guess it must be kind of thrilling for Microsoft - which has endorsed the #droidrage campaign - to find the malware boot on the other foot for once. After all, they have long suffered having the Windows desktop operating system negatively compared to the likes of Unix and Mac OS X when it comes to the levels of malware infection,” it said in a blog post. — LBG, GMA News
