Taiwan's HTC Corp. unveiled in the United States its first Windows Phone that can use the high-speed 4G LTE (long-term evolution) network.

HTC's Titan II, presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will be sold in the US through AT&T Inc., Taiwan's Central News Agency reported.

"HTC's history of innovation in 4G technology includes delivering the first 4G-powered devices to each major carrier in the U.S., so it is exciting today to continue that leadership with our first 4G LTE Windows Phone, the HTC Titan II," a CNA report quoted HTC CEO Peter Chou as saying.

With a 1.5-GHz Snapdragon S2 processor from Qualcomm and a 16-megapixel camera, the 4.7-inch HTC Titan II allows fast web surfing, streaming and downloading as well as 720p HD video recording.

It will run on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Mango Phone software, and may be available within several months.

However, HTC did not immediately give specific information on the product's release date or pricing.

The CNA report said investment bank J.P. Morgan expects HTC to showcase more new LTE phones at the Mobile World Congress in February and will likely start shipping them in April 2012 ahead of rivals.

Such a move may help it regain a product leadership edge in advanced 4G technologies in the market. — TJD, GMA News
