Report: Siri plans to speak Japanese

How would you say "Oops" in Japanese?

Siri, Apple Inc.'s voice-activated personal assistant for the iPhone 4S, may have leaked in advance to users her new ability to speak Japanese, an enthusiast site reported.

According to screenshots posted on 9to5mac.com where she was asked what languages she can speak, Siri answered, "I can speak French, English, Japanese and German... but I'm always learning."

The screenshots were part of a post dated Feb. 14.

But Apple's Siri FAQ site as of Wednesday (Manila time) indicated Siri "understands and can speak" English (US, UK, Australia), French, and German.

"In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish," it added.

The 9to5mac.com article said Japanese may be announced at the iPad 3 announcement in March.

"There is no word yet on Chinese or Russian, but those are also likely coming soon," it added. — TJD, GMA News
