Now that it is pushing its iCloud service full blast, Apple Inc. is killing off its cloud-based iWork.com service by end-July. In a notice on its iWork.com site, Apple advised users to download and save the documents and other files they uploaded to iWork.com on or before July 31. "With a new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.com public beta service will no longer be available. As of July 31, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web," it said. Apple launched iCloud in 2011, to store music, photos, documents and other files, and wirelessly push them to Apple mobile devices. Today, it said there are already over 40 million documents stored on iCloud by millions of iWork customers. "We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all your documents to your computer," the iWork team said. A separate article on tech site CNET said Apple had tried several approaches in the past decade, starting with iTools and migrating to Mac with a personal online disk and Web sites. These evolved into MobileMe before Apple launched its iCloud service. CNET said iWork was released in January 2009 as a public beta service, and has remained such through Apple's continued development of cloud-based services. — LBG, GMA News
