Google gives number geeks early Easter eggs

Easter is still weeks away, but search giant Google is gifting number geeks early Easter eggs with a surprise that not many people can decipher.

Google's latest Easter egg is particularly for fans of binary, octal and hexadecimal, where Google writes the number of search results using the number system queried.

"When you search for [binary], [octal] and [hexadecimal], Google writes the number of results using the numeral system from the query," said enthusiast blog site GoogleSystem.

Thus, the number of search results when one searches for "binary" would be in 0s and 1s; those for "octal" would be from 0 to 7; and those in "hexadecimal" would be from 0 to F.

However, the GoogleSystem blog advised those who want to see the Easter egg to make sure "search plus your world" is disabled.

"Either click the 'hide personal results' button below the search box or sign out,"  it said.

A separate article on PC World said one can convert Google's gag results to world-standard Hindu-Arabic numerals by using Google Search to convert the cryptic number.

One can type, for example: "0b1010111101111001111000000000 in arabic." — TJD, GMA News
