Firefox slowing, crashing? Mozilla introduces Reset button

Is your Firefox browser slowing down and crashing over time? Mozilla may have just the answer with its new Reset button.

 

Mozilla said the Reset button will restore Firefox to "factory" condition while saving the user's essential information.

 

"All of your Firefox settings and personal information is stored in your profile folder. The reset feature works by creating a new profile folder for you while saving your (data)," Mozilla said.

 

It said the Reset feature will cause Firefox to save data such as:

 

 

However, it said there will be items in Firefox that either will not be saved or will be set to their defaults:

 

 

The Reset button, available in Firefox 13 (beta), can be accessed by clicking on the orange Firefox button and clicking on "Troubleshooting information."

 

Alternately, one can type "about:support" in the address bar.

 

Once the Reset button is clicked on, Firefox will close and be reset.

 

"When it's done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click Finish and Firefox will open. That's it – you're done!" Mozilla said.

 

In a separate blog post, Mozilla's Verdi said the Reset button saves one the time and effort of individually troubleshooting problematic plugins, themes of extensions.

 

"I have to say, this thing is like magic. You basically get a brand new Firefox installation without the penalty of losing all your data. This is especially useful as a quick fix for the thousands of posts we see on social media where people often express vague complaints about Firefox," Verdi said.

 

Verdi added future plans include making the Reset button discoverable, and giving users the option to reset Firefox when it crashes on startup for the third time. — RSJ, GMA News
