Macs to get Adobe Flash 'silent' background updates
Aside from the shiny new goodies at the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC), Apple's Mac OS X computers are getting something new as well from Adobe: Flash with silent background updating.
Flash, a popular Internet plug-in that Apple has discouraged due to its tendency to crash, has reached version 11.3 and addressed several security holes, tech site CNET reported.
CNET said that while the silent update feature debuted as early as version 11.2 for systems running Microsoft's Windows, it made its first appearance for Macs with the latest version.
"This move by Adobe is a great step toward securing Mac users from known vulnerabilities in Flash, and will ensure that users will always be running the latest versions. This feature comes soon after Apple's release of Safari 5.1.7, which automatically disables older versions of Flash when new ones become available," it said.
Aside from its tendency to crash, Flash has become a target for malware developers due to its popularity.
On several occasions, malware makers had been noted to disguise their products as fake Flash Player installations.
The new Flash features an installer that lets the user choose whether to have Flash automatically update, only notify about available updates, or never check for updates. — TJD, GMA News
