Activists are urging people to join a “black protest” online against the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
“Hindi lang offline, may online protest din kami. May black protest kami sa internet every Friday at sa first day ng implementation ng batas,” Anakbayan national chairman Vencer Crisostomo told GMA News Online as the groups filed a petition Monday at the Supreme Court seeking a temporary restraining order against Republic Act 10175. “Kaya pinapaki-usapan natin ang publiko na gawing black ang profile picture nila.”
Crisostomo also said that the petitioners will hold a rally at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in front of the Supreme Court. “Bukas sasabayan namin ‘yung Supreme Court en banc," he said.
President Benigno S.C. Aquino III signed the controversial measure on Sept. 12. It will take effect on Oct. 3, Wednesday, 15 days after it was published in newspapers on Sept. 18.
Crisostomo, together with Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raymond Palatino, filed the petition against the controversial law, citing vague provisions on online libel.
