Hack into child porn sites instead, DOJ urges hacktivists

Instead of attacking government sites in protest, an anti-cybercrime official on Tuesday evening suggested that hackers hack into those engaging in porn and child porn instead. Cybercrime Office head Assistant Secretary Geronimo Sy said he suggested this at a forum for the implementing rules and regulations for the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. "Sinabi namin sa forum na kung may time sila mang-hack ng government website na kailangan ng ordinaryong mamamayan, sana mang-hack sila ng porn sites especially those that are showing Filipino women and children for sale," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He added they should protect Filipino families and children first before hacking government, media or other websites. Besides, he said the act may disrupt government service while owners of such porn sites are earning. "[The] criminals profiting from our people, 'yan naman ang laughing all the way to the bank (The criminals profiting from our people are laughing all the way to the bank)," he said. Last week, hacker groups attacked some government websites in protest of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which went into effect Oct. 3. But last Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued a 120-day temporary restraining order against the implementation of the law, following protests by several groups. On the other hand, hacktivist group Anonymous said it would stop its attacks after learning a government site offering emergency information had been disabled. — LBG/HS, GMA News
