Globe Telecom on Tuesday said it has nearly completed the modernization of its Visayas network, with work in Cebu 100-percent complete.

Cebu's nearby provinces will soon have a brand-new network, the telco said.

“Our call setup improvement was at 99.40 percent, higher than the National Telecommunications Commission's criterion of 96 percent. The dropped call rate is now at 1.01 percent, lower than the NTC norm of two percent,” said Globe head of Visayas Network Technical Group and Network Operations Mike Sandil.

Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu observed “on some [Cebu] sites, I was able to reach surfing speeds of 6.8 Mbps, which is a very high number.”

Cu added “it is achievable if your network has a proper backhaul and technology. That’s what we put in the table with the brand new network of Globe in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas. And as of late we are already close to 60 percent completion for the entire project spanning the entire Philippines.”

Globe added that its improved service boosted mobile traffic in the Cebu Globe network by 15 percent between the pre- and post-benchmarking period between the third week of January 2012 and the second week of September 2012.

Leyte is set for modernization, Sandil said, with Samar and Bohol following by year-end and Iloilo and Roxas at the start of 2013. — VS, GMA News
