As a follow-up to the equally successful 2009 “Batman: Arkham Asylum”, Arkham City improved on its predecessor by allowing players to immerse themselves in a larger and very hostile section of Gotham City that was cornered off following the events of the first game.
The game was originally released for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 2011, followed by a port for the PC on November the same year and a “Game of the Year” edition early 2012.
A spin-off title “Batman: Arkham City Lockdown” was released for Apple iOS devices, and lately the Nintendo Wii U received the game as a launch title in the form of “Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition”, featuring new enhancements and armored costumes for Batman and Catwoman.
Capitalizing on the popularity of the game, board game company Cryptozoic Entertainment have announced their newest title in the form of “Batman: Arkham City Escape, The Board Game.” Due to be released in stores on February of 2013, the game requires two players, with one assuming the role of Batman while the other plays every other nook and cranny of The Dark Knight’s rogues gallery.
The objective of the game is simple: inmates will help fellow baddies escape Arkham City, while Batman tries to subdue and stop them. The one who plays the villain holds the cards for random outcomes, as Cryptozoic Entertainment promises that every game will be different from the last.
