Microsoft offers Windows 8 discounts, 88 days after launch

With the number 8 especially considered lucky at this time of year, Microsoft is offering discounts for its Windows 8 operating system to mark the 88th day after its launch. But Microsoft said Windows 8 will remain available under discount offers only until January 31, and offer upgrade editions at $119.99 (P8,900) starting Feb. 1. “Our goal at Microsoft is to constantly strive to provide Filipinos and users around the world with opportunities that help enhance their lives at enjoyable offers like the fast, fluid and no-compromise Windows 8,” said Mae Rivera-Moreno, Windows Client Business Lead for Microsoft Philippines. Moreno said these offers include upgrading from a basic Windows 7 PC purchased before June 1, 2012, to a Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 or around P645. Microsoft noted over 100 million apps for Windows 8 have been downloaded from Windows Store since its launch and 60 million licenses have been sold. It added Windows 8 is available in 140 markets and 37 languages worldwide, with 30,000 developers engaged in Asia Pacific. Discount offers Microsoft said these Windows 8 discount offers are valid until January 31:

- Customers who bought a Windows 7, Vista or XP PC before June 1, 2012 can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 (around P645 only). - Customers who bought a Windows 7 PC between June 2, 2012 to January 31, 2013 are entitled to upgrade for only $39.99 (around P1,700) by visiting www.windowsupgradeoffer.com. - Upgrade through the packaged DVD version which is available at major retail stores and malls for only $69.99 (around P3,500).
Microsoft also noted leading manufacturers such as Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, HTC, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba have released powerful PCs, laptops, all-in-ones, convertibles, tablets, notebooks and even Windows 8 phones. Eric Sulit, IT Director for Samsung Philippines, said Samsung is "very esteemed in introducing a wide portfolio of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8-powered devices.” “With our leadership in design and technology and Microsoft’s leadership in operating systems, together we are able to provide customers with a full range of ATIV devices for cross-category convergence,” Sulit said. — LBG, GMA News
