iPhone iOS 6.1 users plagued by battery drain, overheat

Some users of Apple's iPhone are complaining about battery drain and overheating after upgrading to iOS 6.1, a tech site reported over the weekend.

Posts on the Apple support communities forum indicate this may not be an isolated problem, The Next Web reported.

"A quick search on the Apple Support Communities forum for iOS 6.1 battery shows this is not an isolated problem. Apple released iOS 6.1 on January 28. It appears some users have been having problems ever since they’ve upgraded: complaints have been coming in from that date all the way till today," it said.

It added the increase in iPhone issues related to battery life and overheating "seem to be related to users upgrading their devices to iOS 6.1."

One thread cited by The Next Web indicated a user reporting great battery life on his iPhone 5, but with another iPhone 5 user who is experiencing "the exact opposite.”

But it also cited one post that said a reset of the handset to factory settings may have fixed the problem.

The Next Web said one possible theory may have to do with Apple Mail and Microsoft Exchange.

"Much like with iOS 6.0, some (if not all) of these issues will likely be fixed with an update, probably iOS 6.1.1. In the meantime, if you haven’t upgraded yet, do so at your own risk," it said.

On the other hand, The Next Web cited a MacRumors post that Vodafone UK advised iPhone 4S owners on its network not to upgrade to iOS 6.1 due to issues with 3G performance. — TJD, GMA News
