This could be a big boon for privacy advocates porn surfers alike: Mozilla is bringing to the Firefox browser the ability to activate private browsing on a per-tab basis.

But the feature, available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, is still in beta, according to a report on tech site CNET.

"This is a pretty big change for Private Browsing aficionados, since previously in Firefox switching to Private Browsing would save all your tabs, close the window, and open a new Private Browsing window without any previously-running tabs. The new behavior allows Private Browsing tabs to run side-by-side with non-Private tabs," it said.

Some have derisively referred to private browsing as "Porn mode" since such a mode prevents Firefox from tracking a user's browsing history and disables cookies.

Meanwhile, Mozilla also introduced other changes to Firefox Beta 20, including resetting the search provider on the Awesome (URL) Bar if a third party changes the default search engine.

Another new feature is a warning that a plug-in has been unresponsive for more than 45 seconds.

For Firefox for Android, CNET noted Mozilla has lowered the system requirements, with the browser now working on Android devices with 384MB of RAM and QVGA displays. — TJD, GMA News
