Bomberman's back in a browser-based multiplayer online game

Some 30 years after it debuted, Bomberman —the computer game where players negotiate through mazes to plant bombs to get rid of enemies and obstacles— is back. While the hero doesn't appear to gain weight —he's still 2D— the game is now playable on one's browser, and has massive multiplayer online capability. Bombermine touts itself as "the most Massively Multiplayer Online Bomberman on the web," where "up to 1,000 players" can play on a single map, "right in your browser!"

A separate report on The Next Web said the massively multiple online (MMO) version is unofficial but can bring back the thrill of the game. "Bombermine is everything you know and love about the original, but hyped up on a much grander scale. The levels are bigger and the ability to instantly respawn, similar to modern first person shooters (FPS) and MMORPGs, means that the action is relentless," it said. It added that while the core gameplay has not evolved, it is "still bags of fun," and the ability to pick up modifiers and power-ups "ensures that your own strategies – and those of your opponents – never get stale." Players may also avail of a chat functionality, "which is perfect if you like to taunt or congratulate your fellow competitors." "Bomberman came out thirty years ago, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate its lasting legacy. The strategic, maze-based action game still holds up to this day and for that reason alone, we can’t recommended this enough," The Next Web said. — TJD, GMA News
