Google last week launched a new Evernote-like service that can let users jot ideas and store them in Google's cloud services.

Dubbed "Keep," the new service acts like an online equivalent of sticky-notes that can sync to one's devices, software engineer Katherine Kuan said.

"With Keep you can quickly jot ideas down when you think of them and even include checklists and photos to keep track of what’s important to you. Your notes are safely stored in Google Drive and synced to all your devices so you can always have them at hand," Kuan said in a blog post.

She said Keep also transcribes voice memos automatically, and supports "super-fast search."

A user can also opt to archive or delete a note once he or she finishes with it.

Kuan said users of Keep on devices running Google's Android can "add thoughts quickly without unlocking" the device, though the feature is only for Android 4.2 and up.

Pro tip: for adding thoughts quickly without unlocking your device there's a lock screen widget (on devices running Android 4.2+).

Notes for Keep can be created, accessed and edited on the web at http://drive.google.com/keep, with these functions to be integrated to Google Drive itself in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, a separate article on Mashable said it was not immediately clear if Google plans to roll out an iOS version of the Keep app.

"But we wouldn't be surprised to see at least some of the Keep functionality on Apple's OS in the future," it added. — TJD, GMA News
