Google is making its social networking project Google+ even more visible by allowing Google+ comments on the blogging platform Blogger.
In a blog post, principal engineer Yonatan Zunger said this makes it easier for bloggers to follow all the conversations around their blogs.
"View your blog and Google+ comments, all in one place. Now when you’re browsing your blog’s comment threads, you’ll see activity from direct visitors, and from people talking about your content on Google+," Zunger said.
Zunger cited an example where a comments and replies in a public Google+ discussion about a Blogger user's entry may appear on the Blogger user's blog.
In this way, Google said a Blogger user "can engage with more of your readers, all in one place."
Also, Zunger said blog readers can comment and connect with their circles.
"Your blog readers will now have the option to comment publicly, or privately to their circles on Google+. And when they’re browsing blog comments, they can view all of them, just the top ones, or only those from the people in their circles," Zunger said.
But Zunger also said a blogger's readers will only see the comments they have permission to see.
A separate article on The Next Web said the release of Google+ Comments on Google-owned Blogger shows that the search engine company wants a piece of the market.
"In a way, this separates Google from Facebook because when the latter released its commenting platform, it did not immediately have a steady stream of publishers ready to adopt it. With Google, it has a huge lineup of blogs thanks to its Blogger service and can tap into that for immediate use," it said.
"It will be interesting to see how soon Google+ Comments becomes available as a plugin for WordPress, TypePad, or any other blogging platform," it added. — TJD, GMA News
