President Benigno Aquino III has signed a law punishing illegal cable television and cable internet connections in the country.
Republic Act (R.A.) 10515, signed by the President last Wednesday, penalizes the act of intercepting or receiving any signal offered over a cable television system or a cable internet system obtained through tapping.
The newly signed law also prohibits “wantonly, maliciously and willfully damaging, destroying or removing cable TV and/or cable internet facilities and accessories of authorized cable TV and/or cable internet service providers” in the country.
Under RA 10515, violators of the legislation will be jailed for not less than two years but not more than five years, and will be slapped with a fine from P50,000 to P100,000. If the offender is a corporation or association, the president, manager or any officer of that entity will be penalized. — Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, GMA News
