Steampunk LEGO out in July
Steampunk fans, start saving up: LEGO builder sets themed after the popular science fiction sub-genre are finally coming in July.
The new sets are part of the LEGO Master Builder Academy's Level 4 (Invention Designer) series, with three kits and 13 designs, io9.com reported.
"Let it inspire all kinds of new ideas, and pick up some tips from professional LEGO designers on how to make your creations look futuristic, industrial or just plain cool!" it said, quoting from the LEGO Club Magazine's description of the Steampunk set.
It said the set promises to "merge the futuristic idea of time-travel with the clockwork gears and puffing steam-engines of the Victorian 1800′s."
A separate article on TheBrickBlogger.com said that while LEGO fans had been making Steampunk creations before, this appeared to be the first time LEGO is "going full steampunk."
"LEGO fans have been long making steampunk creations – usually characterized by above mentioned fantastic machines and vehicles with dominant colors of brown and gold. In addition the LEGO Monster Fighters theme had somewhat of a steampunk-ish feel. And now it seems like LEGO is with the LEGO Master Builder Academy Level 4 sets!" it said.
Steampunk is a science-fiction sub-genre that features steam-powered machinery.
A second set involves "Master Historical Designs," influenced by real-world architecture.
"Whether it’s Roman windows, Asian temples or medieval houses, mastering these styles expands your building skills and helps you see new uses for all your LEGO pieces!" it said.
The third allows movement and functionality to creations such as those patterned after the work of the great Leonardo da Vinci.
One can "add gears and other mechanisms" to models to "create real movement and functions." — TJD, GMA News
