'Mario Kart' helps 10-year-old avert road tragedy
Here's another reason why totally banning your children from playing video games isn't such a hot idea: a 10-year-old boy averted a road tragedy in Colorado, and credited "Mario Kart" for his driving skill.
A report on Colorado-based 9news.com said the boy, Gryffin Sanders, grabbed the steering wheel of a car he was riding after the driver, his great-grandmother, passed out.
"I tried to wake her up at first. Then, I just took the wheel and drove it into the ditch," he said after seeing his great-grandmother Darlene Nestor, 74, pass out while driving at 60 mph.
He grabbed the wheel and turned the car into a mud-filled ditch until it slowed down and stopped. Passersby then stopped and called 911 to help his great-grandmother.
Gryffin then revealed the secret behind his driving skill: he said he learned driving by playing the video game "Mario Kart."
"And, I'm pretty good at go kart driving," he added.
"The proudest moment I think of this is he's been so humble about it. There's nothing more I could ask of him," said his father Sean. — VC, GMA News
