Mercedes Benz, Google Glass to team up?

From turn-to-turn to door-to-door navigation and back?

 

This could be one of the scenarios of a possible collaboration between carmaker Mercedes Benz and Google, where the car can communicate with a Google Glass device.

 

A report on tech site Mashable said the system could use Google Maps to power the in-car navigation system, and Google Glass to give the wearer directions once he or she gets out of the vehicle.

 

"In its current iteration, you input an address into Glass at home. That information transfers to your in-car navigation when you get in your car and plug your phone in. Then, when you get out of the car, the navigation returns again to Glass so you can complete your journey," Mashable said.

 

Mashable said Mercedes Benz has developed a prototype of the technology and is working with Google to implement it.

 

With Google already offering walking directions based on its Google Maps, it said Mercedes' app "would streamline communications between Glass and your vehicle, allowing you to seamlessly switch between the two."

 

It added that while Glass is available for a small group for now, it may be available to the public in 2014, "and Mercedes wants to be ready." — TJD, GMA News
