Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer goes viral on YouTube
By MIKAEL ANGELO FRANCISCO
Colorful superheroics meet spy thriller action in the first official full-length trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with well over 3 million views on YouTube within just a day of its release.
The much-anticipated sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger is practically just a shield’s throw away from now, and fans are eager to see the star-spangled Avenger from World War II jump back into action after last year’s box-office hit, The Avengers.
Adapted from the award-winning comic book storyline by writer Ed Brubaker and artist Steve Epting, Captain America: The Winter Soldier follows Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans), whose time in suspended animation has not diminished his determination to stand for freedom and equality a single bit. As the living legend of World War II mulls over his role in the free world that he almost gave his life for – a world that has long moved on without him – he is joined by fellow Avenger Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and a new ally, the high-flying Falcon (Anthony Mackie).
For the first time, the loyal soldier finds himself increasingly at odds with his superiors, questioning his orders in a world where black and white no longer seems as clearly defined and distinguishable as it used to be, seven decades ago. To further complicate matters, a formidable new foe rises to threaten the security of the modern world, an unfamiliar opponent who seems to bear a very familiar face.
Created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon in 1941, Captain America remains one of Marvel Comics’ most popular characters, prominently featured in various comic books, merchandise, and other forms of media.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Joining Evans, Johansson, and Mackie are Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is expected to hit Philippine theaters on March 26, 2014. — TJD, GMA News
