Holy &#@%! Users of Microsoft's Xbox gaming service may risk losing account privileges if they upload videos with profanities, a tech site reported Tuesday.
TechCrunch cited complaints by users of Xbox One that they could not use the Skype videoconferencing software and other applications on their consoles.
But while it said Microsoft allayed fears of account suspensions if one swears on Skype, the software giant confirmed uploading content with “excessive profanity” via the Xbox One's Upload Studio feature could cost the user several account privileges.
"To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls. Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users," Microsoft said.
"Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members," it quoted Microsoft as saying in a statement.
A separate report on CNET quoted a Microsoft spokesperson as saying it has a "more sophisticated system of enforcement" on Xbox One.
"As a result, if someone misbehaves on the service, we may only suspend some of their privileges on Xbox Live such as access to certain apps or use of certain features," the spokesperson told CNET.
However, the spokesperson also affirmed the Xbox Live Policy and Enforcement team "does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls." — ELR, GMA News
