NBI clearance applicants in Manila still brave queues on 1st day of online application

Long lines of clearance applicants persisted at the National Bureau of Investigation head office in Manila on Friday, the first day the agency activated its online application system.

As of 8 a.m. Friday, queues of applicants—many of them there before dawn—still stretched along a portion of United Nations Avenue. In past weeks, the lines had stretched even longer, going all the way to the corner of UN Avenue and Maria Orosa Street.

According to applicants interviewed by GMA News reporter Mav Gonzales, they preferred to endure the long lines because the online scheme is only on its first day and may still be subject for improvement.

The online application form may be accessed via nbi.njis-ph.com. The process may be completed in about five minutes.

After putting in one's personal information, the site will provide a registration code that the applicant must present along with a printed copy of the form.

If the applicant registered online, he/she may head straight to the cashier in any of the 55 NBI sites nationwide to pay for the clearance and undergo biometric enrollment for the release of the clearance. The list of these areas is available on the NBI website

According to NBI Director Virgilio Mendez, the agency is still easing in on the new system and expects "significant progress in the coming weeks with the delivery of additional equipment and increase in personnel."

The Renewal Module will be implemented next, he added. —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KG, GMA News
