Paper plane flies high: Hobbyist builds Boeing 777 from Manila folder
Now THIS is one heck of a paper airplane. A hobbyist has built a 1:60 scale model of the Boeing 777 jumbo airliner, using manila folder to build the miniature, tiny part by tiny part.
Luca Iaconi-Stewart said he started using manila file folder as his material of choice since high school architecture class, The Verge reported.
"Even back then I found it a really versatile material; it's flexible enough to shape and mold, but it can be incredibly strong if you engineer it properly. I never really tried anything else," he told The Verge.
Photos of his work so far that were posted on The Verge included parts of the cockpit, the passenger cabin, the landing gear and even the engine.
The Verge also noted he even fashioned detailed miniatures of the lavatories and meal carts.
"He starts by printing out object designs and then slicing them down with an X-Acto knife, before gluing it all together," the report said.
But Iaconi-Stewart is still not finished, and he is preparing for the next stage, which he perceives to be the most difficult: the wings.
"I've just started the preliminary design phase of the wings, and I can say that they will be, without a doubt, the single most complex part of the entire project," he said.
For the moment, however, those following the progress of Iaconi-Stewart's work can see videos he posted on his YouTube channel. — KDM, GMA News
