Samsung, Google ink 10-year cross-licensing patent deal
It looks like Samsung and Google will be partners for the next 10 years, after both tech giants signed a global patent licensing agreement.
Samsung said the mutually beneficial agreement covers its and Google's existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.
“By working together on agreements like this, companies can reduce the potential for litigation and focus instead on innovation, said in a post on Samsung's blog.
Dr. Seungho Ahn, head of Samsung’s Intellectual Property Center, added this agreement with Google is "highly significant for the technology industry.”
“Samsung and Google are showing the rest of the industry that there is more to gain from cooperating than engaging in unnecessary patent disputes,” Ahn said.
Google and Samsung have had a fruitful partnership, with Samsung's smartphones running Google's Android operating system.
Under the agreement, both companies can "gain access to each other’s industry-leading patent portfolios, paving the way for deeper collaboration on research and development of current and future products and technologies." — TJD, GMA News
