PHL school adopts RFID-based self-service library

A private school based in Manila has the distinction of being the first in the Philippines to have a high-tech self-service library checkout station based on radio frequency ID (RFID).

With a donation from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, the Mapua Institute of Technonolgy (MIT) now has a UHF RFID intelligent library system.

"The UHF RFID automatic system, designed for the tracking of library materials, is made by the Taiwan company ClarIDy Solutions and is recognized by MIT-Intramuros as a global trend in the library field, as it provides state-of-the-art automatic service in modern library management where no man-service is highlighted," the TECo said.

It added this "proves once again Taiwan’s contribution to the development of top-notch library systems in the world."

At the launch of the system Friday, TECO Minister Samson Chang was received by Dr. Reynaldo Vea, MIT's president.

Changv turned over the Self-Service Library Check-out Station to the institute, and Vea thanked the TECO for its donation.

Vea also voiced hopes MIT-Intramuros may have more cooperation with universities in Taiwan in the near future.

Meanwhile, Chang assured the MIT the TECO will continuously function as a bridge to assist further academic cooperation.

He added opportunities are ahead for further collaboration in the fields of education and technology. — TJD, GMA News
