Flappy Bird creator to take down game

 

Bid goodbye to your Flappy Bird.

 

Don Nguyen, the Vietnamese creator of the popular game, tweeted Sunday that he will take Flappy Bird down from the Apple app store and Google Play.

 

"I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore," said Nguyen through his Twitter account @dongatory.

In later tweets, Nguyen clarified that he is not taking down the game due to legal issues. 

 

"I just cannot keep it anymore," Nguyen said.

 

As of posting, Nguyen's announcement has been "favorited" more than 24 thousand times, with more than 87 thousand retweets.

 

The punishing game involved keeping a bird flying through obstacles. It challenged players young and old alike, leading to a spike in popularity over the past few weeks.

Gamers and techies alike have speculated that Nintendo may make a move against Flappy Bird as its pipe obstacles closely resemble those found in Mario Brothers games. It also resembles the game Piou Piou, that has the same concept of keeping the bird afloat, except that Piou Piou has cacti instead of pipes as obstacles.

The game has been a cash cow for Nguyen, who admitted earning $50,000 a day from in-game ads. - GMA News
