Tron designer makes real superbike for Lotus

Soon, the sleek iconic superbikes in the movie "Tron" may be making their way to real roads - at least for those who won't get zapped by the steep price.

No less than "Tron" designer Daniel Simon, whose work includes "Tron: Legacy," "Oblivion" and "Captain America," helped create the superbike dubbed the C-01.

"The design process of the C-01 was a labor of love. We have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics," tech site The Verge quoted Simon as saying.

Lotus added the C-01, the first motorcycle to bear the legendary marque, is now "road registered and ready for action." (http://www.lotus-motorcycles.com/ready-to-roar/)

It said the C-01 "combines ample power via a V-twin engine with a distinctive body designed by Daniel Simon integrating carbon fibre, titanium and aerospace quality steel."

"The C-01 will be available in a range of liveries some of which pay homage to Lotus’ sporting pedigree. A customisation service is also available, limited only by the imagination of the client," it added.

Only 100 units will be made, with Lotus advising superbike collectors and fans of the Lotus brand "to move fast to secure one."

The Verge said that while there is no price tag for the 400-pound bike for now, "expect the C-01 to be eye-wateringly expensive."

Specs of the C-01 released by Lotus include:

  • a 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine, 75° V-style engine that can generate 200 HP
  • a 6-gear jaw-type shift transmission
  • water cooling
  • hydraulic anti-hopping clutch
  • aero tech steel/titanium/carbon fiber frame
