Sixth 'Resident Evil' film moving ahead; seventh incarnation may be revealed at E3 confab
It looks like fans of Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise will have some more things to look forward to, as an update to the live action film series Paul W.S. Anderson helmed has arrived, as well as reports that Capcom may officially announce a new sequel at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The untitled sixth “Resident Evil” movie that continues the story of Alice, played by actress and star Milla Jovovich, was originally scheduled for a release date of September 12, 2014.
Following the success of the last film “Resident Evil: Retribution”, fans were left with a cliffhanger sequence in the 2012 sequel, which earned a stellar $240 million globally.
Since then, no official announcements have been made other than Jovovich speculating in her official Twitter account that the movie may see a 2015 release date.
Now it appears we may be getting details soon enough, as Paul Anderson himself addresses during his visit at the Beijing International Film Festival that he would be returning to work on his next Resident Evil film, which may bear the title “Resident Evil Rising”.
The director also confirmed that actress Li Bingbing will return for the next installment and reprise her role as fan favorite character Ada Wong, and that the movie will be “definitely be 3D” as well.
In the gaming realm, Japanese Newspaper Sankei Shinbum has a report that Capcom plans to unveil a major title for the Playstation 4 during E3 this coming June.
Speculation is that it’s Resident Evil 7, and fans theorize that Capcom may be looking to reboot the franchise as the series performed in a disappointing mark when Resident Evil 6 was released in 2012.
While no concrete or official information has been given yet, it may be a good move to reignite interest in the series. — ELR/TJD, GMA News
