iPhone 6 touted to be slimmer, with new button design

A new "third-party" case and supposedly leaked images of new volume buttons point to a next-generation iPhone that will be as thin as the iPod Touch.

In a YouTube video, user "Unbox Therapy" compared the dimensions of the upcoming iPhone 6 to the present iPod touch.

"If this case turns out to be accurate, we'll be seeing a very thin iPhone 6," he said.

Enthusiast site 9to5mac.com said this would suggest the next iPhone may be about 6.1 mm thin.

This along with images of volume buttons leaked online bolster speculation that the iPhone 6 will be about 6 mm.

Also, the site cited images of iPhone volume buttons appearing on Weibo, which was noted on MacRumors’ forums.

"Compared to the current volume buttons on the iPhone 5s, these buttons are more rectangular — ‘pill’ shapes. Although it is hard to tell from the picture, if you use the + – icons as a frame of reference, these buttons seem much thinner than the current circular buttons, assumedly to fit inside an overall slimline chassis," the site added.

On the other hand, it noted the "pill" button shapes are shown in the leaked cases.

"It’s hard to believe that Apple can fit all the components of a phone into a case this thin, but every day more and more evidence surfaces supporting this outcome. Apple is expected to announce the new 4.7 inch iPhone (and potentially a 5.5 inch variant as well) later in the year," the site said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
