Fans of Samsung gadgets may want to mark September 3 on their calendars: that's the rumored date the latest iteration of the popular phablet will make its debut.

Enthusiast site Android Geeks quoted an insider who said Samsung is also planning to send the invitations to the Unpacked event in August.

The site said the timing could be aimed at Apple's release of its new iPhones, usually in September.

"In fact it’s not surprising at all to hear that the Note 4 will be released in September. Samsung has always used the Galaxy Note phablets as instruments meant to steal some of the potential iPhone buyers," it said.

"With the iPhone 6 expected to see the light of day late August or early September, the Galaxy Note 4 should be released in the same time frame," it added.

The site said the Galaxy Note 4 may sport 3 GB of RAM, quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, and a 16-MP ISOCELL sensor from the Galaxy S5 upgraded with Optical Image Stabilization.

It speculated the Note 4 may share features with the Galaxy S5 such as a fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor.

Also, it cited a recent report indicating the phablet will have a 5.7-inch Quad HD screen with 1440 x 2560 resolution and 515 ppi pixel density.

"While we agree on the resolution of the screen, we believe that the Note 4 would rather sport a 5.9-inch display, because Samsung made a habit out of increasing Galaxy Note’s screen 0.2 inches per year," it added.

On the other hand, it said the new device could run Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz skin.

Meanwhile, Greenbot.com said other rumored specs from GSMArena indicate a Exynos Hexa or Snapdragon 801 chipset along with the possibility of a ruggedized, waterproof design. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
