Users of phones and tablets running Google's Android operating system can now do more photo tricks with the updated Google Camera app for Android.

The app, which went live on Google Play May 28, claims to snap "quick and easy photos and videos," and now has creative picture modes like Photo Sphere, Lens Blur and Panorama.

Among the features of the app's Version 2.2 are:

  • Photo Sphere for immersive 360-degree views
  • Lens Blur for SLR-like photos with shallow depth of field
  • Panorama mode with high resolution
  • Viewfinder shows whole image sensor for uncropped images
  • Updated UI that "gets out of your way" with an extra large capture button

However, Google said the app works only on phones and tablets running Android 4.4+ KitKat, while Photo Sphere and Panorama require a gyro sensor.

It added Photo Sphere, Panorama, and Lens Blur require at least 1 GB of memory.

Meanwhile, 9to5Google.com said the new app features the return of a timer feature.

"The company removed it earlier this year, for some odd reason. The picture timer allows you to choose either 3 and 10 second timings for taking an image," it said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
