Android device manager gets 'guest mode' feature
Good news for owners of Android phones who lost their gadgets: they can now log into a fellow Android owner's Device Manager and track the missing gadget.
This was made possible with a new "guest mode" feature baked into the latest update for the Android Device Manager app, which Google rolled out this week.
A description of the feature on Google Play said the "Guest sign-in" feature lets a friend "temporarily log into Android Device Manager to find their device."
"Should you lose your device or have it stolen, you can now log into someone’s Android Device Manager app, with your account, and track your device. You’ll have full access to the remote lock feature, as well as the controls for ringing, locking, and restoring the device," 9to5google.com said.
The app also allows Android owners to:
- Locate Android devices associated with their Google account
- Reset their device's screen lock PIN
- Erase all data on the phone
Meanwhile, 9to5google.com said Google had upgraded the Android Device Manager partly due to increased competition from Apple’s Activation Lock service. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
