UP Open University’s online systems disrupted due to Glenda

Students and people making online transactions with the University of the Philippines' Open University may have to brace for longer waiting times, no thanks to Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun).

The UP Open University (UPOU), in a post on its social media account, said its website is still down while its Internet connection is unstable due to damage wrought by Glenda.

"Email inquiries and other processes requiring online activity will take longer than expected," it said on its Facebook page.

Also, it said first trimester and first semester applicants may expect the results of their applications via email until July 31.

UPOU is headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna, one of the areas hit hard by Glenda.

As of Thursday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said only 89 percent of power has been restored in Laguna.

The UPOU is the fifth campus of the UP System, giving opportunities to those seeking higher education but could not use traditional modes of education.

It offers distance education to give students formal qualification. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
