World of Warcraft to immortalize Robin Williams as in-game character

Gaming fans of the late comedian Robin Williams have succeeded in their quest to get the 63-year-old immortalized in the MMORPG World of Warcraft.

Kotaku reported that the Change.org petition filed by the comedian's fans was officially recognized by WoW-maker Blizzard, through a tweet confirming an earlier update by an employee.

Fans wrote in the petition that Williams used to play on WoW's Mannoroth server and was "well known for being an extreme PC builder who preferred to build his own overclocked and super-cooled systems."

Blizzard has been asked to have a non-playable character based of Williams who will perform his best jokes in the World's End Tavern, where two stand-up comedian NPCs already perform.

Other videogames played by Williams, as compiled by Crave Online, included Wizardry, a series based on traditional pen-and-paper RPGs first produced for the Apple II.

The veteran actor also collected armies for Warhammer 40k, a miniature tabletop strategy game, though he admitted in a Reddit "ask me anything" (AmA) chat thread that he has never played the game.

And while the original USA Today story has been deleted, a preserved copy on Gameplanets' forums showed Williams' love for Valve's sci-fi cult classics Half-Life, while another answer on his AmA revealed his admiration for its other sci-fi hit, Portal.

He was also a big fan of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series, and had even agreed to his son Zachary's suggestion to name his Filipino-American daughter after the titular princess.

Zelda posted a quote from "The Little Prince" hours after her father's death, and wrote, "I love you. I miss you. I'll try to keep looking up." at the end.

In a statement reproduced by the L.A. Times, she said, "Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again.” — TJD, GMA News
