Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro to helm 'Silent Hills' video game, starring Walking Dead's Norman Reedus

Literally coming out of nowhere like the concept from which it is based on, fans of Konami’s psychological horror video game series “Silent Hill” are in for a very special treat, as video game developer Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo Del Toro have been revealed to be developing a new installment in the franchise—with The Walking Dead superstar Norman Reedus onboard as the main protagonist of the game!

As reported by IGN and revealed at this year’s annual GamesCom trade fair convention in Cologne, Germany, the “teaser trailer” was actually a reward players got by downloading the then mysterious video game demo known as “P.T”, which was first revealed during Sony Computer Entertainment Corporation’s presentation as a trailer that followed after Kojima-San’s latest demonstration of the new features for his upcoming new game in the Metal Gear Solid series, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.  The interactive demo was released for the Playstation Network for Playstation 4 users to download on the same day.

“P.T” actually stands for “Playable Teaser”, and sees the player controlling an unknown character in the confines of a dark and scary apartment. Searching around for clues and solving various puzzles, players had to find a way out of the area with scares and frightening moments at every turn.

Those who were successful enough to reach the end of the game would hear a mysterious and eerie recording, and soon find themselves outside in the city street. A man then appears and walks toward the foggy portion with nothing but a flashlight in his hand.

Kojima's and Del Toro’s names then appear, and as the camera zooms in at the mystery man, it’s revealed to be none other than Norman Reedus, who continues on to unknown territory. The screen fades to white, and the familiar Silent Hill theme music plays as the title “Silent Hills” appears, confirming Konami’s resurrection of their beloved survival horror franchise.

Much like how Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, this is Hideo Kojima and his company Kojima Productions second time working on another famous Konami property. This time however he’ll be working alongside the man behind the “Hellboy” and “Pacific Rim” films, and giving the main protagonist role to the actor who’s best known portrayal of the fan-favorite redneck Daryl Dixon in AMC’s The Walking Dead.

While he could not discuss any more details other than what was already revealed with the “P.T” trailer, Kojima did say that he, Guillermo Del Toro, and the developers were very busy working to make this Silent Hill game the kind that players would “shit in their pants in”. Before its true nature was unveiled to the public, the game was advertised to be designed by “7780s Studio”, which proved to be another throwoff by Kojima that’s similar to how MGSV was masked with “Moby Dick Studios” before it was officially unveiled some years back.

No release date has been unveiled for “Silent Hills”, but stay tuned for more details as they come. — TJD, GMA News
