American web series RWBY lands in Japan

In a first for foreign-made animes, American web series "RWBY" will be imported to Japan by Warner Brothers Japan.

Announced by Rooster Teeth and Adweek, the series will be dubbed and released in Japan on Blu-ray and DVD in 2015.

RT CEO Matt Hullum told Adweek that it was the "first time any American-made anime has been marketed to Japan". Cross-platform interactions such as these, he said, will become more commonplace as online media matures and increases its production value.

Fans in Japan have already started celebrating the expected re-release of "RWBY", with series creator Monty Oum retweeting fan cosplay and art in his Twitter account.

WB Japan had also started its marketing of the series, releasing a trailer at the annual Comics Market or Comiket.

"RWBY" has received over five million views on Youtube and streaming sites Crunchyroll and Blip.tv. Season one, or 'Volume I', had 16, 10-minute long episodes while season two or 'Volume II', the current season, released recently.

The series revolves around four girls enrolled in Beacon Academy, an elite school training hunters and huntresses to defend the world from shadow monsters named Grimm.
