These mobile games are proudly Ilonggo-made

When will the Philippines wow the world with a catchy mobile game? There are serious contenders from all across the country, with Iloilo giving its rivals a run for their money.

Aeus Tech Inc., an Iloilo-based developer, has so far released four games including one optimized for wearables for devices running Apple's iOS, Google's Android, and Amazon.

“It is known that (the) mobile app industry is such a competitive market. Starting an independent company entails a lot of perseverance, positivity and luck. Together with skills and hard work, our company was being recognized in the country,” Aeus senior developer Merielle Impreso said in a letter to Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

She said the company wants to discover and nurture Ilonggo creative talents in the mobile industry.

Impreso said Aeus Tech's name stems from the Filipino word "ayos" meaning okay.

As of Wednesday, the company has released four games:

  • Hit the Can, which Aeus said topped App Store Philippines in the first week of its release in November 2013
  • Oh My Gravity, one of the first games for Android Wear. It has the player trying to avoid Earth's gravity as well as space junk. It got its game concept from "Flappy Bird."
  • Matchblox, where a player can pair different-colored blox
  • Shapopo, a quick and cuddly memory game

"Our beginnings are quite humble, yet we strive to create experiences that will resonate throughout the entire world, one game at a time," the company said on its website. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
